vgotshowWe met with Joe in Portland last week. Joe and Taylor (his assistant) related their story about how this project has changed their lives. Gaining exposure through Martha Stewart’s Living Magazine has propelled them into a full-fledged business.

The Victory Garden of Tomorrow is a self-commissioned poster campaign designed to channel the bold energy of historical poster propaganda. It is committed to civic innovation and social progress — better food, better gardens, and better cities. It is design, politics and whimsy for the modern home front.

The Pub is happy to join the project by offering Joe’s work for sale. We currently have all of his posters in stock, ready for your purchase. The screen prints, like the ones pictured here are available by special order.

ck_328-fishtales-poster-fin-1 Last month’s sausage making demonstration with Chef McClelland was memorable. Having filled the house, folks saw and savored fresh sausage with a locally produced Nettle Pale Ale. This month we’ll be all about fish – with Port Townsend’s Key City Fish Co. also taking part, it should be another fun and informative evening out – on Bainbridge. Follow the link to reserve your seat. It does sell out.

The Watercolor Group adds final touches to its Show

The Watercolor Group adds final touches to its Show

The group which meets regularly on Bainbridge Island has hung its latest show in the newly “refreshed”  pub. The owners closed the pub from November 6-9 to give the place its 20th anniversary makeover. New recycled fir paneling, wall paper, and ceiling treatment were added along with new restroom floors. The art show from the Wednesday Watercolor group of painters is a popular annual event.

For the fourth consecutive year the pub staff will be pouring beer and wine at the Chamber of Commerce’s Grand Old Fourth of July. The beer garden is located at the corner of Shannon and Bjune Drives.

With the help of Mike Hale, Hale’s Ales namesake and founder, the bar is setup to run from 11 AM to 5 PM. Everyone’s welcome to join in the fun. Two band’s will be playing. The first, Eagle Harbor Jazz Ensemble, is a repeat performer from the Island and will play from 11 – 2.  Seattle band, by way of Sacramento, Blvd Park will play from 2 until close at 5PM.

All proceeds from the sales of beer and wine benefit the Chamber of Commerce.

Serving it up for Industry Night

Serving it up for Industry Night

Sunday, December 12th marked the first Industry night of the season at the Pub. With Floor & Beverage Manager, Angie Payne behind the bar, most Sunday and Monday nights, the Pub is encouraging restaurant workers and farmers to mingle while enjoying reduced price food and beverage offers… $3 pints, $5 Highballs and 1/2 priced Putine was the first night’s deals. The evenings begin at 8 PM and last until closing. It’s one way to get through these dark days of winter. The Pub expects to continue the nights every Sunday & Monday through March.

Harbour Pub & Marina, and Pegasus have expanded its free WI-FI along Parfitt Way and the waterfront. With three hotspots throughout the waterfront neighborhood  most everyone who lives or works there is within range of an access point —both indoors and outside. Boaters, visitors and anyone who can receive a signal can log on to the parfitt_wireless network anytime. All that is required to register to use it is a name and a email address. Registration and use remains free. Since June, nearly 700 new users have logged-on. Look for the logo and you’ll know you’re in range!

Pig is for Party!

Pig is for Party! About 60 or more friends of the Pub and Pegasus gathered to roast a whole 173 pounder the week before Halloween. Despite the foul weather that Sunday the whole pig and a keg of Port Townsend IPA was devoured!

Watching the Semi-Finals at the Pub- FIFA World Cup 2010

Watching the Quarter-Finals at the Pub- FIFA World Cup 2010

For the first time in many, many years a TV was allowed in the Pub for the FIFA World Cup Football Championships 2010 from South Africa. The first year that American broadcast TV aired all 64 games since the Cup’s beginnings, the pub joined in the fun.

“While we would have liked to have played all 64 games ‘live’, we just didn’t have the staff or customer base to make it succeed,” stated Jocelyn. “But, we were able to play all the real important games ‘live’ and the rest we replayed throughout the same day they were played.”

It certainly added to what was really a slow-starting summer!

Now it begs the question whether there is an audience for English Premier League Matches aired ‘live’ on Saturday and Sunday Mornings…say with traditional English fry-ups and Bloody Marys!  Let us know if you want to come out for it this fall and winter and we just may drag the projector out of storage.
